Payment via Bank Account

Receiving payments through your bank account is probably the most convenient and fastest way to get the grant; you may also avoid queuing in person at the Post Office. The sums for each month will be deposited into the beneficiary’s bank account in accordance with the grant application. Please keep in mind that the bank account information or cellular phone number provided for payment MUST be registered in the name of the accepted applicant used in the Covid-19 R350 grant application procedure to ensure that payment reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Receipt of Payment

Individuals who do not have banking information can collect their grant money from Post Office branches (SAPO/Post Bank), Pick-N-Pay, or Boxer retailers. Alternatively, you could use a Bank Mobile Money Transfer (cash send option). You will only be allowed to collect the grant money once you have received an SMS confirmation that payment has been confirmed. The SRD Grant Payment Dates for this week are listed in the table below.

What does it mean that my SASSA status is pending?

Unfortunately, when many people check their sassa status online, it only shows “pending,” and they are unable to receive the R350. On June 1, 2022, the official SASSA issued the following message:

Payments for the new cycle of the special COVID-19 SRD award (beginning in April 2022) will be made beginning in mid-June 2022.

As soon as the bank information are validated, SASSA will resume clearing outstanding payments from the previous cycle. The payments will not be made all at once, but rather month by month. A payment may be made more than once in a month, but no one will get double payments in amount. SASSA will make many payments per month until the backlog is cleared, at which point monthly payments will resume.

SASSA Payment Dates for September 2022:

Older Person’s Grant – From Friday 2nd September 2022
Disability Grant – From Monday 5th September 2022
All Other Grants – From Tuesday 6th September 2022

As soon as the payment dates for October 2022 are published, we will update.

This was stated on February 10 during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Cape Town. It is hoped that the Relief of Distress Grant would continue to assist individuals in South Africa who require it the most.
